Comments: Today
was pretty uneventful as we are settling into routines. Art does most of the cooking and I the dishes,
which we are better at. We get up, punch
the coffee button, eat breakfast, brush with Uncle Tom’s, check the engine
fluids and belts, turn on the Spot, the engine and instruments, check the AIS
for traffic, then pull up the anchor or untie the lines and go on our merry way. I add things to my maintenance list
throughout the day and work on them when we arrive. Finally, we do our homework
for the following day.
We left Houma at approximately 620. The keel was in the mud throughout the night so we waited for the first barge to pass and rode it's displacement wake out of the dock. Our day was interrupted
by only two bridges, the Bayou Blue Pontoon Bridge, at mile 50 and the West
Larose lift bridge at mile 35. The
bridge tenders were very nice and we transited both without event. After arriving I wired the AIS to operate
from its own electrical switch, enabling it to remain on without all navigational
equipment. This was done to save energy
and remain on while anchored during the night. Tomorrow’s
destination is Seabrook Marina on the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal, in New
Orleans. This should give us an early
start toward the Mississippi Sound through the Mississippi River Gulf
Outlet.
I am envious! Glad to hear you two are enjoying the daily challenges...
